More Meditations and Prayers

Meditations being the theme of this post, I add a video of Rain in VT as recorded by Dieter Hennings, professor of music at University of Kentucky. Dear Dieter posted this during the past week in an effort to help our GoFundMe campaign. It’s a very meditative tune I wrote for him several years ago and is a lovely accompaniment to the following…more music below.

Breath | the in and the out

As part of my cancer journey, I am meditating every morning and try to get in a couple more sessions through the day. My mind starts out racing with all the things I want to do on this beautiful day, the people I want to talk to, the ideas I have for more writing and blogging. So I compose little sayings, poems, meditations, prayers. Some, like these, are to accompany the in and out breath: My soul is deep/My mind at rest. Or just Soul deep/Mind rest. Heart full/Spirit flies. Sacrum/Sternum. Ribs out/Solar plexus in. Clean (O2)/Clear (CO2, and all toxins). And here’s my favorite, having just been through a horrible UTI experience of taking 20 minutes to eliminate: Bladder full/Pee.

Want a few more? Please make up your own – it’s sort of addictive. Fill/Release. Heart/Mind. Live/Die (I don’t recommend this one – life’s too short already!). What I do recommend is pairing some, such as: Sacrum/Sternum – Sun/Moon or Glow/Fade. Feel the glow of oxygen burning around your sacroiliac joint on the in-breath, then on out-breath feel the sternum and solar plexus drop and be at peace. [the solar plexus, because of its radiating nerve fibers, is a complex network of nerves located in the abdomen…Wikipedia] It’s nice to go from physical to emotional/spiritual. For example: Foot/Head, to Sole (of foot)/Crown (of head), to Soul/Spirit (that which surrounds us).

Here are a few longer meditations and ponders, and a piece called Meditation to listen to while you read with art work by Yeiter.

Body Scan #1

My soul is deep
My mind is free
My feet in dirt
My head in air
My ankles, wrists turn
My knees, elbows flex
My hips bend
My shoulders extend
My spine twists
My neck reaches
Belly is soft
Throat open
Tongue at rest
Chest expands
My Heart slows
My eyes see infinity.

God is a funny thing

God is great. God is good. God is hate and God is flood. God is Godzilla, and the reefs from which he spawned. God is Buddha, Krishna and Quetzalcoatl. God is Yahweh and Tao. God is fish and fowl. God is You. God is Me. God is god and awful and dead. God is mean, judgmental, and tribal. He is kind, generous and universal. He is She. He is We. They are We and We are They. God is divine. God is what God is. Funny thing!

I sit
Not with thoughts
Not in mind
With God
Inside

That which is below
That which feeds
The world above
That which creates
In silence
Hurricane and drought
Fire and volcano
Geyser and glacier
Mist, mine and mind
Goblet, gorilla
and gigabyte
Confusion, concubines
and conquerors
Caves, shadows
Shallows
and
Quivering delight.

Tea Ceremony

I sit.
I hold
warm roundness.
I listen.
